Abstract
The conventional model for multiwinding transformers is difficult to relate to its physical construction, and the measurement of the model parameters is difficult and unreliable. In this paper a physically-based electrical model of a high voltage multi-winding transformer is presented. Each component in the electrical model corresponds to a physical quantity of the transformer. A method is also presented to calculate the leakage inductance for nonuniformly spaced windings, which store significant energy in the flux in the radial field. Also, the parameters can be directly measured on experimental prototypes. The experimental results closely match the predicted results.
