Abstract

This article discusses the explosions of regulations in IT security. Injustice through information manipulation is big business. This has been a response to the growing ability of criminals and unscrupulous corporations to take advantage of electronic data. While legislators and governing bodies are fighting a rearguard action against impropriety and illegality, information professionals occupy the very point where the buck stops. They are guardians of corporate information through storage, communications and continuity plans, and they are also facilitators for automated processes, data collection and governance. But it's not just legislation; there is also a selection of standards, guidelines and best practices to consider.
