The Writing Factory: Structured Collaborative Academic Writing in Engineering

Abstract

The importance of writing and publishing is well understood in the academic world. Therefore, academic writing is a common soft skills lecture provided to students and researchers. However, these lectures may be quite theoretical and do not sufficiently guide the writing in teams, reviewing and publication process. This paper provides a more hands-on approach to collaborative academic writing and publishing in a structured process – the Writing Factory. For engineering subjects, this requires technical expertise as well as academic skills from the lecturer.
