Abstract
Under the ground surface, lots of useful information are present and extracting this information with the help of wireless sensor networks is the new area of research. The extracted information finds its utility in the fields of mining, agriculture, security, and many more. Successful extraction of underground information requires efficient communication between transmitter and receiver. Multi-hop transmission is a technique that has been used to achieve effective communication in terrestrial wireless networks. In this technique transmission between transmitter and receiver doesn't take place directly, but takes place with the help of intermediate nodes. In this work, we analyze the functioning and performance of a multi-hop transmission scheme in the wireless underground sensor network. The performance of multi-hop transmission was analyzed using the values of pathloss, received power, and bit error rate.
