Abstract

Polyimide (PI) plays an important role in 5G communications, artificial intelligence, and aerospace, which has excellent dielectric characteristics, high mechanical strength and stable chemical property. However, the performance of polyimide is restricted by surface discharge and flashover induced by the surface charge accumulation of the insulating polymers. The roughness of polymer’s surface can strongly affect the process of the charge transport. Thus, the impact of surface roughness on surface charge characteristics of polyimide was investigated after corona discharge in this work. The results indicated that increasing surface roughness could hinder the accumulation and decay of charges, which could provide an important reference for the development of polyimide in various fields.
