Abstract

The present study is devoted to hydrogen generation at temperatures down to −40°C by aluminum and magnesium oxidation in various aqueous solutions. At −40°C the highest conversion degrees (180 min.) are 17% for aluminum powder in KOH aqueous solution and 43.4% for aluminum granules in HCl solution containing CuCl2. At −30 °C for MgCl2 solution magnesium powder samples ball-milled with Ni, Ga and without additives yielded 82.8, 73 and 67.2% respectively.
