A variety of network links were established between the various coverage areas using network components such as optical network terminals (ONTs), inbuilt Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM), Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifiers (EDFA), Small form-factor pluggable (SFP), optical network units (ONUs), and splitters. The features and functionality of an active network were incorporated into the design. A solid output performance index, such as consumption of power, Q factor, and BER was used for evaluation.
