Occupational factors related to post-traumatic stress disorders in health care workers at some hospitals in the North of Vietnam during Covid-19 pandemic

Abstract

Background: Covid-19 pandemic had an enormous impact on the social economy globally, especially on the mental health of health care staffs Objectives: To identify some social factors related to post-traumatic stress disorders in health care staff from some hospitals in the North of Vietnam during the Covid-19 pandemic Methods: It is a cross-sectional study with a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods. PSS-SR scale was applied to 400 health care staff who directly treated and cared for patients infected by Covid-19. These staffs were from the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases and Ninh Binh General Hospital. Occupational factors were considered, including working department, duration of working hours, and time to interact with infected patients. Results: PTSD in health care staffs had related significantly with working in ICU (OR = 3.84: 95% CI: 1.22-12.04); Department of treatment (OR = 5.39; 95%CI: 1.82-15.34); working more than 8 hours per day (OR = 2.16; 95%CI: 1.22-3.81) and work more than 5 hours for Covid-19 patients care (OR = 2.29; 95%CI: 1.1- 4.75)
