Estimation of Areas Sown to Cereal Grains in Kazakhstan from Modis Hyperspectral Radiometer Data

Abstract

A concise history of the development of methods for using remote sensing data to estimate areas sown to grain in Kazakhstan is presented. Methods for identifying areas sown to winter and spring wheat and other grain crops are described, based on multispectral MODIS space images. The results of utilizing such imagery to estimate sown areas in West Kazakhstan Oblast are presented.
