Abstract

This paper aims to provide a review of the current literature on the topic of ferroresonance. The definition of ferroresonance and the requirements for transients to be classified as such are discussed and then the paper identifies the various factors which influence ferroresonance and its initiation. The four main modes of ferroresonance are identified, along with the criteria for their classification. Finally, the paper discusses the effects that ferroresonance can have on the power system. The paper does not discuss ferroresonance analysis or mitigation strategies.
