Biomimetic optical systems — Strategies for miniaturization of optics

Abstract

Micro-optics is a well-established technology which is integrated in many industrial, medical and consumer products today. However, micro-optics will not follow the path of micro-electronics, where further miniaturization always triggered higher performance at lower costs. The scaling laws of optics and biomimetic strategies for miniaturization of optics will be discussed.
