The West Palaearctic Epeolini Linsley & Michener, 1939 housed in the Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle (Paris) with some taxonomic notes (Hymenoptera: Apidae: Nomadinae)

Abstract

Summary While Triepeolus Robertson, 1901 is monospecific in Europe, there are still many issues with the taxonomy of Epeolus Latreille, 1802. To address some of the taxonomical issues, the Palaearctic Epeolini housed in the Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle, Paris (MNHN), were examined. Type materials of Pérez and Benoist are designated. One species name, Epeolus julliani Pérez, 1895, stat. rev., is removed from synonymy. Its sister-species, Epeolus transitorius Eversmann, 1852, is redescribed and a lectotype is designated. Males of E. transitorius and E. collaris Pérez, 1884 are described for the first time. An annotated summary of the Epeolini housed in MNHN is provided, with an identification key to the European species of the Epeolus variegatus-group.
