Abstract
A transverse vibration and/or low amplitude oscillation (dither) environment subjects sliding electrical contacts to a unique fretting environment that traditionally has not been considered in the literature. The latest advancements in nanotribology and single asperity contact has opened some interesting lines of consideration that should be reviewed in sliding contact applications with transverse vibration loading or low amplitude oscillation movement.
