Abstract

We propose a new backoff algorithm which incorporates release delay in addition to backoff delay. In the proposed algorithm the backoff counter of a successful user is gradually decreased. The rate of the decrement is controlled by the release delay. The performance of the proposed algorithm is analyzed by means of the equilibrium point analysis in terms of throughput and delay characteristics. Numerical results show that the proposed algorithm can significantly improve the performance by properly choosing the parameters.
