Abstract
A new analysis of the open-circuit microstrip termination is described which enables all of the reflection, transmission, radiation and surface wave effects to be calculated. The formulation is based on a continuous eigenvalue mode spectrum and provides the most complete treatment of this particular microstrip discontinuity to date. The results are compared with experimental and other data. Finally the importance of the technique for calculating the coupling limitations between isolated printed circuits or microstrip antenna elements and increasing the accuracy of existing circuit design procedures is briefly considered.
