"Peek as a Biomaterial in Dentistry: Why and Why Not?"

Abstract

This paper provides an insight into various aspects of PEEK (Polyetheretherketone) as a biomaterial in and other fields of dentistry. In recent years, many biomaterials like graphene came into existence, PEEK is another material which is gaining importance. In dentistry, PEEK finds its use in many ways, especially in its branch of prosthodontics. This article also reviews various properties of PEEK and its surface modifications. PEEK is a good material for fabricating CAD-CAM fixed and removable prostheses due to its superior properties compared to materials such as acrylic. In addition, this paper also highlights the drawbacks of PEEK.
