This article reviews changes to codes and guidelines for reporting outpatient consultation services, including the following: Distinguishing consultations from other evaluation and management (E/M) servicesCode selection based on medical decision-making (MDM) or the total time directed to the patient’s care on the date of the encounterCodes reported to payers that do not pay for services reported with codes for consultation services
