Abstract

The paper proposes an approach to solving identity problems from the perspective of scientific philosophical materialism, whereby identity is defined as an objective social phenomenon independent of the individual’s ability for categorization.  Human being is studied in his/her action content as a social being that is ontologically divided in its essence and existence. Overcoming this alienation through adequate action provides the basis for identity formation in a social individual.
