Abstract
This paper presents performances analysis and comparison of the conventional and intelligent maximum power point tracking (MPPT) strategies based on the Hill climbing searching method. The conventional HCS is a non-linear, dynamic and modeless MPPT strategy. Its principle is based on perturbing the rotor speed and observing its results on output power. The intelligent MPPT is a modified version of the conventional HCS method. Its principle is based on fuzzy logic tool. The performances of the methods are compared based on the mechanical power exctratcted. Simulation of a small-scale wind turbine based on Squirrel Cage Induction Generator (SCIG) allows proving that the intelligent MPPT presents best performances compared to the conventional Hill Climbing Searching (HCS).
