Abstract

The loss analysis of FR4 substrate in an L-band Vivaldi antenna for radar applications has been performed. The effect of both conductor loss and dielectric loss is studied by computing the gain of the antenna at different frequencies. The losses are computed using mathematical equations and described with the help of EM simulation models. It is observed that both dielectric loss and conductor loss are inversely proportional to substrate thickness. The analysis shows that dielectric loss is independent of antenna geometry.
