Emerging advanced optical transmission technologies: Their impact on optical transport networks and optical packet switching

Abstract

This paper reviews the recent advanced optical transmission technologies that have the potential to expand substantially the optical transparent network domain. The new challenges that these emerging technologies bring to optical packet switching design are discussed.
