The author describes how the result of electronics industry downsizing has been that reliability, availability and safety, quality, failure analysis and purchasing quality engineers are extremely scarce and very much needed. We find today we are reassigning people from other areas like circuit and systems designers, to help contain the shortfall created by the combination of right sizing and market requirements.
