What Happens to the Labour Supply and Schooling of the Children Left Behind by Temporary Migrants?

Abstract

Using Vietnamese panel data, we investigate how a father's temporary migration is associated with the labour supply and human capital investment of his child left behind. Our analysis shows that a longer absence of a father is associated with more housework and less education of his son if the boy is at an age for primary or lower secondary schooling.
