Abstract

Type-1 diabetes is the number 1 disease in the world. When a person becomes ill, the patient's pancreas is no longer able to generate insulin to lower blood glucose levels when food is eaten. An alternative way to treat patients with diabetes is automatic insulin infusion systems. In this article, a control based on higher order sliding modes for the control of blood glucose is designed. The proposed controller is based on the Generalized Super-Twisting algorithm, which offers convergence in finite time, and is robust against external disturbances and parametric uncertainties. Also, the stability of the proposed controller is tested using Lyapunov arguments. Finally, the control performance is compared against other proposed methodologies.
