REMOTE SENSING IMAGERY IN THE SEARCH FOR DIATREMES

Abstract

The possibilities of using remote sensing imagery to locate and investigate diatremes within sedimentary strata of the East European Platform are examined. The principal problems encountered in this type of geological exploration are discussed and a scheme for focusing and increasing the efficiency of the search for productive bodies is presented. The main purpose of the study is the creation of an automated system of exploration for diatremes in sediment-covered platform areas.
