Abstract

An optically-pumped D2O laser with an unstable resonator has delivered pulses exceeding 1μs in duration at energies approaching 1J. It is pumped with a CO2 laser system comprising a hybrid oscillator and an electron-beam preionized amplifier used in a triple pass configuration and producing 500J.
