Abstract

Previous experiments showed that the ambient noise level in deep ocean is smaller below the critical depth than above the critical depth. While the general features of the ambient noise was understood, quantitative studies must consider the acoustic conditions where the data are collected. In this paper, we analyze the depth dependence and vertical coherence of surface-generated noises at low frequencies using simulated data, and study the influence of environmental conditions such as local/distant wind and shipping. The results can be used to interpret the experimental data.
