Abstract

Description of the northbound route taken by the frontier road in winter, followed later by caravans and the Transit Road. Perilous with landslides and blizzards, it followed the narrow valley of the Harxit to pass below Sedisca, Eski Gümüşhane, and Thia; climbed by Zigana to the dangerous Zigana pass (6,665 feet); and descended to Ad Vicensimum.
