Abstract

The authors have reported that the iron loss of the inductor varies according to the pre-magnetization, and the iron loss characteristic depends heavily on magnetizing characteristics. In this paper, the iron loss characteristics for the pre-magnetization of typical magnetic materials, such as a ferrite core, an iron powder core, and sendust core are shown. Based on the loss characteristics, the loss calculation of the buck-chopper inductor using the magnetic materials that have different iron loss characteristics with pre-magnetization are provided, and the minimum loss condition of the inductor is discussed.
