Evolution of products and enabling technologies for optical networks

Abstract

This paper outlines the state of art of optical networking and how innovation coming from components and subsystems will enable the deployment of agile optical networks. Then, the European Technology Platform Photonics21 is introduced, with its roadmap for optical technologies.
