Abstract

The physics program planned for the 4 GeV Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility (CEBAF) is reviewed. It is explained how the desire to study the role of quarks in nuclei leads to the choice of 4 GeV for the energy, and why coincidence measurements seem so promising.
