Single ventricle/total cavopulmonary connection (Fontan circulation)

Abstract

The Fontan operation has improved the outlook for many patients born with complex congenital heart disease and only one functioning ventricle. The circulation, however, imposes a number of haemodynamic limitations and late failure is due to several issues. Management of the failing Fontan is a major challenge for adult congenital heart disease practitioners.
