Abstract
Due to new requirements in the market relations for regulation of power in the energy system, the issue of balancing is becoming more and more important. In European countries, the regulation of the power system is made by the system operator, but it is carried out by private companies who have own generation units to provide certain reserve capacity for each hour. There is certain disagreement over which particular methods should be used in terms of optimal generating equipment maintenance planning and how to do that without financial losses. The purpose of the research is to analyse the effectiveness of the directed search method and its possible modifications, and to estimate the behaviour of the power system relative power reserve within a maintenance period which could be of paramount importance for closely related generation adequacy investigations.
