Analysis of Correlation Based Coarse Timing Estimation of OFDM System

Abstract

In this paper a preamble aided timing synchronization scheme for OFDM system is proposed. A correlation based algorithm for coarse timing estimation is proposed. Algorithm works in time domain and timing metric is independent of the specific structure of the preamble. A detail analysis of the distribution of the proposed timing metric and derivation of the probability of frame erasure are discussed. The performance of the proposed timing metric is compared with existing timing synchronization methods for OFDM systems.
