Abstract

Recent years have shown that wireless sensor networks (WSN) are becoming more and more popular in industry and everyday life activities. The topology control is a crucial technique, which is used to obtain energy efficiency without affecting the network's connectivity and coverage. The article demonstrates a specific topology control mechanism that significantly reduces the energy consumption without affecting the network's connectivity and coverage. The results are compared to different approaches proposed by other authors. Finally, the authors discuss the topology control mechanisms usage for the forthcoming years.
