Abstract
An artificial dielectric material is investigated in this paper for the implementation on square patch antenna which has the advantage in antenna miniaturization. The proposed artificial dielectric material is configured using copper conductor which takes in a cylindrical shape. The copper conductors are then embedded in such a way on some dielectric substrate in which the position of copper cylindrical conductors is perpendicular to patch of the antenna and its groundplane. Here, a styrofoam is applied as the dielectric substrate to built the square patch antenna. Some parametric studies by changing the number of copper conductors are carried out to investigated the characteristics of artificial dielectric material. From the antenna characterization, it is shown that the copper conductors embedded in the styrofoam of square patch antenna has affected the decrease in the resonant frequency of 49.41%.
