Abstract

Use of traditional methods to improve reliability differs in the impact on the standard reliability indices (CAIDI, SAIDI, and SAIFI) from automated approaches. The traditional methods such as tree trimming, shield wire, lightning arresters, and different types of line construction address the root cause of distribution circuit faults. The automated approaches mainly reduce the duration of the outages through the addition of remote control.
