Abstract
Wireless communication networks are expanding with the deployment of small cell networks. Energy efficiency becomes a crucial system design parameter in such systems. One approach to increase the energy efficiency is to allocate radio resources in efficient manner. This is done by developing a QoS based optimization framework for Joint bandwidth and power allocation. Energy efficiency in such systems can be further improved by on-off switching of small cell base stations. On-off switching is done by keeping small cells in energy-saving mode while preserving the quality of service (QoS) experienced by users. An optimal framework combining joint resource allocation and random sleeping is presented for a heterogeneous network to increase the energy efficiency.
