Both steady-state and dynamic characteristics of rare earth doped crystal thin film waveguide have been analyzed. Nd/sup 3+/ ion doped crystal waveguides are used for the amplification of light signals in the 1.06 /spl mu/m band and Er/sup 3+/ doped waveguides are considered in the 1.55 /spl mu/m band. The optical properties such as loss, fluorescence and absorption spectra have been investigated which determine the gain characteristics of the amplifier. Abstract
Theoretical analysis and experimental investigation of the optical properties of integrated optical waveguide amplifiers are presented. Both steady-state and dynamic characteristics of rare earth doped crystal thin film waveguide have been analyzed. Nd/sup 3+/ ion doped crystal waveguides are used for the amplification of light signals in the 1.06 /spl mu/m band and Er/sup 3+/ doped waveguides are considered in the 1.55 /spl mu/m band.
