Abstract
Acai (Euterpe oleracea Mart.) has enormous economic importance for different municipalities in the Amazon. Researches have shown how much their production helps in the composition of the income of several families. In this regard, studies that assess its spatial dynamics are crucial for understanding the economic and social value of the product. However, mapping is a difficult task given its size and occurrence in the forest. Considering these aspects, this paper presents a mapping of the acaizeiro, in an area Marajo Island, Para, using visual interpretation of the acaizal, in high spatial resolution satellite image. PRODES-INPE data were used, combined with the automatic classifications IsoCluster and MAXVER. The results demonstrate there is a superiority and detail in the ITC (individual tree crowns) mapping. In relation to other methods, confirmed by the Kappa index. However, there is an absence of accuracy of automatic classifications in relation to the mapping of acaizeiros.
