Abstract
A successful systems engineering approach for the assembly, integration and test phase of a prototype space program is flexible while maintaining technical rigor. The Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite is used as a case study to discuss immediate solutions to issues that arose late in the program, and the need to balance technical risk against the demands of cost and schedule.
