Underpinning neuroanatomy and physiology

Abstract

A sound basic knowledge and understanding of neuroanatomy and physiology allows the nurse to recognize and appreciate common neurological presentations of illness and trauma. The knowledge base enhances clinical reasoning and the application of clinical judgement when faced with a series of signs and symptoms, enabling the practitioner to formulate an action plan and apply appropriate interventions based on their knowledge of the central nervous system.
