Questioning the sacred and profane by means of African images and arts

Abstract

Abstract The purpose of this paper is to investigate the nexus between modernity and secularisation by means of an analysis of contemporary African artistic expressions. In particular I am going to discuss this topic with reference to my fieldwork concerning the rebuilding of the ‘Happiness hut’ (bung die) of the Bamileke chiefdom in Bandjoun, Cameroon.
