La población indígena y afrodescendiente de Paraná. Categorías socioétnicas entre 1755-1824

Abstract

The current city of Parana had its origins during the first decades of the 18thcentury, in the dynamic space of the Santa Fe border known as “la otra bandadel Parana”. The Spanish-Creole, Indigenous and Afro-descendant settlersconstituted the population of the small town that would acquire greatereconomic and political importance over time. Aiming at generating newinformation about the Indigenous and Afro-descendant population presentin the town and city of Parana during the second half of the 18th centuryand the first decades of the 19th century, archival work is carried out aroundecclesiastical documents and the population census of Parana of 1824. The contexts of application of the different socio-ethnic categories used in thedocuments are discussed, as well as the particular characteristics of thedifferent sectors that make up the population of Parana are analyzed.
