ESPAÇOS DE RECLUSÃO: a vida conventual feminina em Portugal nos séculos XVI e XVII

Abstract

This article proposes a historiographic review about on feminine spirituality, specifically with regarding to nuns, in Portugal in the 16th and 17th centuries: the ways of entry and maintenance of novices in the convents, the rules in time within the convents, social and hierarchical structures, devotion and religious education, highlighting the ways of expression of this religiosity and their changes after the Council of Trent (1545-1563), with the advent of the Modern Devotio movement and deviations that occurred in convents.
