The new proposal additional mechanism permits to avoid the mixture of retransmitted access request and the new ones. Consequently, it decreases the number of transmission attempts needed to successfully transmit an access request. Abstract

This paper considers the MAC layer in General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) system. We present the MAC procedures used to enable multiple mobile stations to share a common transmission medium that may contain many radio physical channels.
