The Role of Hepatitis C Virus in Parkinson’s Disease

Abstract

This article summarizes findings of a review of recent articles related to the possible associations between (viral) hepatitis and Parkinson’s disease. There is growing evidence for an association between Hepatitis C and Parkinson’s disease, while there is conflicting evidence for such an association between Hepatitis B and Parkinson’s disease. More research is needed into the causes of Parkinson’s disease, including its relation to Hepatitis B and C. Implications for clinical practice include regular neurological evaluation of HCV positive patients.
