Abstract

This paper presents a high-efficiency single-diode rectifier and rectenna targeted to VHF wireless power transfer applications, operating at 82 MHz. The rectifier obtains a peak efficiency of 82% at an input power of 25 mW. Additionally, greater than 50% efficiency is demonstrated for input powers from −3 to 25 dBm and across input frequencies from 73 to 100 MHz. The rectifier is combined with a folded dipole antenna to realize a receiver rectenna for large-area wireless power applications. A design approach for high-efficiency VHF rectennas, applicable to both large-dimension and compact connected sensors and devices, accompanies the measured results.
