Abstract

The Pudozh region of Karelia, rich in folklore traditions of various genres, has attracted the attention of the researches of Karelian Research Institute (now the Institute of Linguistics, Literature and History of Karelian Research Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences) since its foundation in 1930. Evdokia Makarovna Levina from Poga Village situated at Lake Vodlozero appeared to be the source for recording the largest number of fairy tales (more than 50) in the 1970s. The research revealed that some of the fairy-tales performed by this illiterate woman descend from the texts published in anthologies and collected volumes, as this article proves with the help of textological comparisons.
