Abstract

Harmonic emissions have been changed in distribution networks with respect to frequency range and magnitude, due to penetration of modern power electronics systems. This paper presents current and voltage harmonic issues of distribution networks in the frequency range of 0–9 kHz. These harmonics could affect communication and control signals in smart meters, Power Line Carrier (PLC), and ripple control signals. Power electronics systems based on Active Front End (AFE) topologies are utilized in many applications such as solar inverters. It is important to evaluate the impact of grid connected power electronics converters on harmonic emissions especially above 2 kHz in distribution networks. In this paper an analysis of measured voltage and current harmonics has been carried out to evaluate the 0–9 kHz harmonic emissions in the existing distribution networks with PV penetration.
